Cucalorus Works In Progress: The Wounded Come Home

Wilmington, NC

November 15, 2008 10:15AM to 12:15PM

Hosted by Molly Murphy

Event Description:

Join filmmaker Lou Cuttino for the screening of The Wounded Come Home(Work in Progress), with a post-screening Q&A with the filmmaker and fellow activists facilitated by Working Films.

About the Film
New armor, battlefield hospitals and new medical advances in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq account for the highest survival rate of any war in American history. But the wounded also suffer from some of the most vicious injuries ever: sever burns, multiple amputations, an unprecedented number of Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). This proposed new documentary series, aimed for national broadcast, examines the new medical advances and signature wounds of the current wars -- and those who suffer from them. It provides an in-depth look at how families, doctors, therapists and others cope with this radically new world of the returning wounded. The series also examines something else that is hopeful and new. All across America, individuals, educational institutions and organizations are stepping up to insist that the returning wounded are not treated in the same manner as the Vietnam Veteran. In a way, the Vietnam Veteran is finally being welcomed home.

Cucalorus Works-in-Progress Program
The Works-in-Progress program gives filmmakers an opportunity to test their work before an audience - at many different stages of production. Co-sponsored by Working Films, the Works-in-Progress program puts extra stress on progress as we discover upcoming works that push social and artistic boundaries.
