Filmshift Festival presents Split Estate
Sudbury, MA
October 3, 2010 07:00PM to October 10, 2010 09:00PM
Hosted by debra
The FilmShift Festival is dedicated to creating positive social change in local communities by supporting the art of film, filmmakers themselves, and small businesses of all kinds.
The Emmy-nominated "Split Estate" maps a tragedy in the making, as citizens in the path of a new drilling boom in the Rocky Mountain West struggle against the erosion of their civil liberties, their communities, and their health. Zeroing in on Garfield County, Colorado, and the San Juan Basin, this clarion call for accountability examines the growing environmental and social costs to an area now referred to as a "National Sacrifice Zone."
As public health concerns mount, "Split Estate" cracks the sugarcoating on an industry touted as a clean alternative to fossil fuels, and poignantly drives home the need for alternatives.
When I saw "Split Estate" it made me feel angry, amazed, and moved. I believe that this is an important story to tell and an important issue to bring to the surface. Moreover, "Split Estate" is a riveting, heartbreaking, eye opening, and well-crafted documentary that I believe audiences need to see.
